It doesn’t matter if you’re a fan of classical music or not its hard not to love the Star Wars scores that have been brought to life by John Williams. He’s created some music that will remain engrained in our heads for the rest of our lives. Unfortunately Williams isn’t going to live forever and at 85 he’s probably got more Star Wars films behind him than he does ahead of him. We got a taste of what Star Wars would be like without him with Rogue One and now its been announced that John Powell will be scoring the Han Solo movie.
Powell’s music has been featured in a lot of films. Most of them are animated including Chicken Run, Shrek and Happy Feet. He was nominated for an Oscar for his work on How to Train Your Dragon. His most notable live action projects are probably 4 of the Bourne movies and Face/Off.
Powell isn’t exactly a name that jumps off the page at me because I’m not as familiar with animated movies as I used to be but he seems like competent talent. I know a lot of people had issues with Michael Giacchino’s Rogue One music. It wasn’t as memorable as I hoped but it wasn’t bad.
What do you think of Lucasfilm moving on with a new composer for Han Solo?
