Carrie Fisher died last December and fans have been questioning Princess Leia’s fate in the rest of the Star Wars saga basically since she died. Would she be killed off or basically written out of the films? John Boyega made a comment about Leia’s future.
This movie, it sends her off in a very amazing, amazing way. She’s still kept alive in this franchise. You know, that’s the beauty of it, she lives forever in a sense.
It seems odd that Boyega was able to give such a strong comment in an interview but it may have been very important for Lucasfilm to keep Leia alive. I’m sensing that they give a finale to the character and leave her out of the upcoming Episode IX. I think the main problem will be pulling it off in a way that feels natural because we all know that Leia wouldn’t just walk away from the Resistance especially when she was one of the minds that built it.
Lucasfilm has been claiming for the last few months that they have no plan to digitally insert Carrie Fisher into any future movies but Boyega’s comment does necessarily rule out a recasting if that was ever considered in the first place.
Are you glad to hear that Leia won’t die in The Last Jedi?
