Day Trippin’

Savage Winery started making wine as hobbyists several years ago. When the owner’s of Woodcock Brothers Brewery said that they loved it. About one year later, Savage Winery was open! They remodeled the old milkhouse into the production room and hand built the tasting room. They use grape juice instead of grapes. This keeps the cost down and consistency up.

The winery is located in the rolling hills of WNY, situated on a working alpaca farm. There are also a some sheep and a couple of miniature goats!

They have an informal atmosphere where you can catch the football game on the flatscreen tv or enjoy a glass outdoors and play a game of corn hole.

They serve many local beers. I had a glass of Amber ale, and got a growler of Sponge Candy stout for the road. Oh, and a bottle of their wine for The Warden

Sponge candy is a chocolate covered treat that is made locally in Western New York. This beer is mild, and light bodied for a stout. Drinks more like a porter or brown ale. Either way it is delicious. As fall is rolling in these heavier beers are a welcome treat. I try to consume local products when possible. This is a fun place to sip a few beers and enjoy the farm.
