The Last Jedi Was Not Changed By Carrie Fisher’s Death

Rolling Stones new story on The Last Jedi and it landed on the website today. Most of the article was stories that we had heard of long ago, but there was one very interesting fact. When talking about the passing of Carrie Fisher director Rian Johnson said this about her role in the upcoming movie saying that the death of Fisher did not change anything about Leia’s journey in the film.

“We didn’t end up changing a thing. Luckily, we had a totally complete performance from her.”

So, this comment could obviously mean a lot of things. It could be that Lucasfilm has decided to let JJ Abrams deal with Leia’s absence in Episode IX or Leia was intended to die in the movie and her death didn’t change that. It has been said by Lucasfilm that Fisher’s role in Episode IX would’ve been the biggest in the new trilogy so its probably likely that she does survive and perhaps she is written out later. Of course though Mark Hamill revealed on Twitter months ago that Luke will be back in Episode IX. It doesn’t mean anything about him getting out alive though.

Does this mean that Leia will survive The Last Jedi?
