I learn something new every day, but every now and then I learn something that I wasn’t prepared for at all. In the past few years I actually was shocked to learn that you don’t always (or ever) get all your income tax back. You probably think that’s a bit of a stupid way to think, but that was actually what I thought.
I’ve had a part time job since I was fifteen and I went to college until I was over 20. So at tax time I got all the tax I paid back because I was a student. The idea of actually having to pay in was something I had no idea about. Now that I’m out of school and in my mid 20s I find that I get very little money back now. Most times after I pay the accountant to do my taxes I’m only about 100 bucks ahead where I would only work part time as a kid and get 700 bucks back.
What was an adult problem that you weren’t prepared for?
