Have you ever listened to a song labeled a “classic” that just didn’t live up to the hype for you? I find that at least in terms of classic rock there are generally 4-5 songs that are often near the top when talking about the “best of all time”. Mostly The Beatles, Led Zeppelin or The Rolling Stones find themselves in the top spot.
Led Zeppelin’s Stairway to Heaven probably finds itself on the top of the list more times than not. The eight minute epic is notoriously overplayed even today. Still, I don’t dislike the song. I actually still really like it. Along with Smoke on the Water, Stairway to Heaven was often banned while testing out new instruments at music stores because the people working there were so sick of hearing it. Famously shown in the movie Wayne’s World.
While I see a lot of the TGO community finds The Beatles to be overrated (they definitely are, but I seem to like them more than most of the people) I’ve always found the Rolling Stones to be more overrated. A lot of their most beloved songs have only been okay in my books. You Can’t Always Get What You Want and Satisfaction are probably the two that I find the most overrated personally.
What is a song you find overrated?
