The first live action Star Wars TV series is probably going to be revealed to the world before we see Episode IX next December. Television always seems to have a much smaller production period even though much more footage is needed. Jon Favreau was announced as the name behind the long rumored TV series and Favreau already has several scripts completed and the film is expected to begin filming in the fall or winter of this year.
The Disney streaming service is scheduled to launch in 2019 so I’m curious to see if the series will actually be available on the platform as soon as its launched. If production is happening within the next 3-4 months then we are likely to get some casting announcements within the next little while.
The show is set to take place after the Battle of Endor in between Return of the Jedi and The Force Awakens. Favreau is expected to allow others to direct the episodes, which is pretty common practice in TV. I wouldn’t be shocked if he directs the first episode. His most recent effort in TV was the pilot of The Orville which was one of the more successful new shows of the most recent season. Favreau also voiced Rio Durant in Solo.
