Ahmed Best is best known for playing Jar Jar Binks in the prequel trilogy. Jar Jar was one of the most criticized elements of those movies because of the annoying goofy humor and annoying voice that accompanied the character. Jar Jar is actually one of the first motion capture characters. Best revealed on Twitter yesterday that he considered taking his own life after the backlash that came from fans after the movie’s release.
20 years next year I faced a media backlash that still affects my career today. This was the place I almost ended my life. It’s still hard to talk about. I survived and now this little guy is my gift for survival. Would this be a good story for my solo show? Lemme know. pic.twitter.com/NvVnImoJ7N

It seems that Best was able to get past that feeling and he has come back to play Jar Jar a few times in the last 20 years. He had a smaller role in the following two prequel movies and he’s voiced the character again for both Robot Chicken and The Clone Wars.
Best and young Jake Lloyd, who played young Anakin Skywalker seemed to get the bulk of insults from fans. It would be brutal to think how much worse these guys would’ve been tortured if social media was around 20 years ago.
While I don’t consider myself a Jar Jar fan. I never hated the character. I still don’t think that he was worthy of all the drama. I’m glad to see that he was able to move on and live his life because no one should have to put up with that shit.
