Happy Friday the 13th to everyone. Often considered the most unlucky day of the year. This is actually the second Friday the 13th we’ve had this year and there can be as many as 3. There will be 2 Friday the 13ths a year until 2020.
Superstitions around this day have been present for centuries. Some believing that it originates as far back as the death of Jesus. There were 13 people present at the last supper and then of course Jesus died on Good Friday. The two unlucky things weren’t really associated together until years later.
Friday the 13th in October of 1307 is another day that may have contributed the day’s infamous reputation. When several of Knights Templar were arrested after being accused of spitting on the cross and committing homosexual acts. The knights were eventually burned at the stake in Paris. The accusations are now expected to have been false.
There are several publications that are given credit for starting the suspicion around that particular day. Most of them coming in the 1900s.
The day is basically immortalized by the cult series of films that bear its name. Friday the 13th is often a day that people spend watching the films, which are one of the more popular series to marathon.
