Richard E. Grant is Not Playing Thrawn in Episode IX

Now that Grand Admiral Thrawn is canon once again Star Wars fans are eagerly awaiting an opportunity where the character can appear in live action. The blue skinned Chiss always seems to be floating about the rumor mill these days.

The newest speculation comes around Richard E. Grant, who was part of the casting announcement a few weeks ago. As expected, the character details for the new additions are completely secret and probably will be for a few more months. Grant was asked directly if he would be playing Thrawn in the film and immediately shot it down.

“I’m not playing the Star Wars character you just mentioned. I’m not allowed to tell you anything. Otherwise I would be fired. It’s a complete lockdown on any information whatsoever.”

I’m sure its very likely that he isn’t playing Thrawn. We still don’t really know what the character’s fate is since the finale of Rebels kept things fairly vague. I wouldn’t be shocked if Grant happens to be on the villain side of things because he has in some of his past roles and with Snoke and Phasma gone its just Kylo Ren and Hux on the First Order side.

Star Wars fans can’t seem to stop speculating that a new actor automatically has to be a known character. I’m sure this guy will be a character we’ve never met before, and there’s nothing wrong with that.
