50 Years: Led Zeppelin Releases Their Debut

Its been a whopping 50 years since Led Zeppelin made their debut on this in 1969. Led Zeppelin came out of the ashes of The Yardbirds in 1968 when Jimmy Page was only remaining member of the band. Page recruited the legendary Zeppelin lineup as The New Yardbirds, but following the first tour they changed the bands name to Led Zeppelin before the release of the debut.

Half the album is cover songs, which wasn’t that ridiculous at time, although the band did assume some credit for some songs that weren’t theirs, mostly notably Dazed and Confused. They eventually did have to give some credit to the original writer of the song Jake Holmes.

It served as a greatly launching point for the band’s career and it’s still considered one of the best debut albums of all time.
