Bob Iger had a conference call yesterday and its normally days like that when he drops a lot of information about what’s going on with Disney, but surprisingly, the news stayed pretty low. Many expected the Episode IX title to hit, but it didn’t happen.
Ever since the announcement of the Fox-Disney merger there has been some concern about what will happen with Fox’s R rated properties. Fox has had success with a couple of big blockbusters with an R rating, most notably Deadpool, Alien and Kingsman: The Secret Service. Iger said that those properties will continue to happen under the Disney umbrella.
I’m not sure what the status of the Alien franchise is after Covenant, but there was a word that Ridley Scott wanted to make a trilogy of prequels. Deadpool 3 is likely to happen and an Avengers style R rated team-up in X-Force is happening as well. Plus, a third Kingsman is supposed to drop this year with more properties expecting in coming years.
So, if you’re a fan of any of these movies you should still have plenty to be excited about with the Disney merger. It just may not have the Disney logo in front of it when you go to the theater.
