When it was announced that Game of Thrones showrunners David Benioff and DB Weiss were going to be making some Star Wars movies it was referred to as a “series” of films. That obviously stirred up the fandom and made everyone think they’d be involved in more than just a trilogy of films. Now it looks like that may not be the case and the pair will be developing a trilogy.
This rumor comes from the HBO president Casey Bloys, who has probably had some interactions with Benioff and Weiss from Game of Thrones. He obviously works with them, but that doesn’t necessary mean this quote is the truth. Here is what his quote was.
“Dan and David are finishing up the final season [of Game of Thrones] and then they are going to go into the Star Wars universe. When they come out of that, I assume they will come back to us. The delay has to do with [the fact] that they were offered three movies.”
Its interesting why it wasn’t revealed that this “series” would only be 3 movies. They could’ve just used the word trilogy. That’s what they did with Rian Johnson’s films (which I’m going to be posting something about tomorrow). Anyway, I’m happy we get 3 more Star Wars films, and while I never watched GOT I feel like these guys are probably right for the job.
