Bob Iger Confirms a Star Wars Movie Hiatus After Episode IX

Its been looking like a possibility for a while, but now its basically been confirmed by Disney that there will be a break in the Star Wars movie release schedule after the release of Episode IX this year. The Skywalker saga is coming to an end and there is no release date for the announced films that are being developed. This news comes right from Bob Iger himself.

There was no movie announced for 2020, and its getting to the point, where if they were going to be making a movie for 2020 it’d need to be shooting right now. It looks like the Benioff and Weiss movies will be next, but it’ll be a little while before it happens.

Here’s Iger’s actual quote.

“We will take a pause, some time, and reset, because the Skywalker saga comes to an end with this ninth movie. There will be other Stars Wars movies, but there will be a bit of a hiatus.”

With Disney+ launching this year there is a good chance they spend 2020 and possibly 2021 developing Star Wars TV. The brand isn’t going anywhere. It just may not be in the theater for a little while. I’d watch a Star Wars movie a week if they could put them out that fast, but spacing things out may be what’s best for the brand.

What do you think about Star Wars taking a break after Episode IX?
