Deep Cut of the Day

The Doors self titled debut album is one of the strongest and best selling debut records in all of music. The Doors earned their stripes in their early years playing at the Whiskey a Go Go (a club that would break many other LA artists in the years that followed) and it got them a record contract in 1966. Their first album came out early in 1967.

The Doors was psychedelic rock at its strongest. The album performed well thanks to the success of the band’s breakout single Light My Fire (which was heavily edited from its 7 minute version on the album) and front man Jim Morrison’s trademark onstage antics that made him a symbol of rock n’ roll rebellion.

The other notable tracks on the album include Break On Through (To the Other Side) and the epic finale to the record The End. Today’s deep cut is the 4th track on the album 20th Century Fox.

The Doors has sold 20 million copies to date and it was followed by 5 more successful records until Jim Morrison died in Paris in 1971. The band carried on as a three piece for a short time but called it quits for good in 1973.
