Apparently, we’re not done in The Matrix universe.
It was announced today that Lana Wachowski is set to co-write and direct a new entry in the Matrix universe. Apparently this will be a direct continuation from The Matrix Revolutions and not a reboot, with Keanu Reeves & Carrie-Anne-Moss set to return.
Lilly Wachowski is as of yet not involved in the project, which makes for a precedent of sorts. Both Wachowski siblings are known to work together on all projects so far.
Personally I smell a nostalgic cash-grab. Pretty much every Wachowski movie since “V For Vendetta” has been tarred as an overly-stylized, or outright mis-guided flop. Last year the Wachowski’s sold off their Chicago production office space as their Netflix series Sens8 wound to a close.
I reckon that with little studio confidence in whatever new material they collectively had, Lana’s only option is to continue the franchise that floated them thus far in the first place.
What do you think? I personally do not need another Matrix movie in my life, despite my love for Keanu Reeves. Lana will never tap back into the golden precision that is the first movie, no matter how hard the progressive advocates bray and wail.
