Tonight is finally the night I get to see a band I’ve been wanting to see for probably five years or so, Monster Truck. They’re a high energy hard rock band from Hamilton, Ontario. They definitely sort of have a retro sound while also sounding quite original. The band already has a following few Canadian bands get these days. I also find that metal heads have embraced them even if I wouldn’t really label them a metal band.
They’re touring behind their third album True Rockers. At first I didn’t really seem to like the album when it first came out, but I have a better opinion on it now that I’ve given it another listen. They’ve got a handful of solid rock radio hits up here and I’ve only heard amazing things about their live show. I’m very excited to be checking them out.
Monster Truck is the band I’m more excited to see, but its actually a Saskatoon, Saskatchewan band called The Sheepdogs. They’re another Canadian band that gets a lot of rock radio airplay. They definitely have a straight forward retro style sound. Even to look at them they look like they came straight out of the 70s. I think The Sheepdogs are a bit more recognized in the States than Monster Truck is. That’s probably why they headline this show. Its the first night of a 3 day festival, so I’m probably going to hit up the other two nights as well as long as I can score some tickets.
Are you familiar with either of these bands?
