Kevin Smith has confirmed on Instagram that after attending a signing with Clerks start Jeff Anderson it is once again planned that a third Clerks movie will happen. Both Anderson and Brian O’Halloran who played Randal and Dante respectively will be back for the third movie.
Clerks 3 has been talked about at many points. As recently as a few short years ago. Smith has basically said that Jeff Anderson was the reason that the film never got off the ground because he never saw a single penny of money from Clerks 2 back in 2006. Here is the blurb that accompanied Smith’s post on Instagram.
“3 CLERKS,” Smith wrote in the post. “Thanks to the good folks at [Leeloo Multiprops], I got to see Randal! Jeff Anderson, Jay Mewes, and I spend Saturday signing stuff and catching up, seeing so much movie merch that’s been made over the last 25 years (hit the Leeloo site for sweet signed skateboards)! But even better than that? We talked about making a movie together. It’ll be a movie that concludes a saga. It’ll be a movie about how you’re never too old to completely change your life. It’ll be a movie about how a decades-spanning friendship finally confronts the future. It’ll be a movie that brings us back to the beginning – a return to the cradle of civilization in the great state of New Jersey. It’ll be a movie that stars Jeff and Brian O’Halloran with me and Jay in supporting roles. And it’ll be a movie called CLERKS III!”
Smith recently did a live script reading of his original script for the movie in New Jersey over the summer, so now that script will be scrapped and process will begin again.
Smith and Jason Mewes are currently in the process of promoting Jay & Silent Bob Reboot and are planning on doing a tour with the movie later this year.
