About a year ago AMC’s horror streaming service Shudder announced it was making a horror anthology show based on the movie Creepshow. The movie debuted in 1982 and featured 5 unrelated stories. The show’s popularity resulted in some more horror related anthology series in the 80s and 90s like Tales from the Darkside and Tales From the Crypt. It spawned two sequels although I don’t think anyone has seen Creepshow 3.
The show is run by Greg Nicotero who was involved in The Walking Dead and each show is a 45 minute episode with two individual stories. Each seem to be helmed by a different director. Shudder’s plan seems to be that they will release one episode a week for 6 weeks so I think the final episode will hit on Halloween. 2 episodes are available now.
What I appreciate the most about this show is its ability to capture the spirit of the original movie. All the comic book style transitions are still in this show, and its cast some interesting talent that you don’t hear from as much. The first episode had Adrienne Barbeau in it and the second had Jeffrey Combs from Re-Animator. They also have some great practical effects which are a big deal in horror material. They even revived the series mascot The Creep!
I doubt that many people here subscribe to Shudder. I do remember ULick talking about it a while back, but if you want to take a gamble on this show the service is available for a free trial for a week if you want to see what its like. I don’t want to talk to much about the episodes to keep the surprises in tact.
