I’m Digging Watchmen

Alan Moore’s Watchmen is possibly the most beloved comic book of all time. For years it was considered an untouchable piece of work. Eventually Zack Snyder adapted the comic into a film in 2008, a film I actually think is pretty decent, but I never read the complete comic.

HBO has been planning a Watchmen show for a long time. It was originally planned as an animated show, but eventually evolved into a live action series with Damon Lindelof, creator of LOST and The Leftovers.

Lindelof proves to be a huge fan of the original source material and rather than adapt it he chose to imagine his series as a sequel to the comic. The show takes place in the modern day, with some characters from the comic playing a part in the story and a mix of new characters included too.

I suggest going into this show as blindly as possible if you’re interested in it at all. The trailers keep plot details fairly close to the chest so they are safe to watch if you are on the fence. I have made an effort to read the comic now that I’ve seen some of the show because it sort of made me interested in reading it.

The cast is pretty impressive. It includes Don Johnson, Regina King, Tim Blake Nelson and Jeremy Irons. They even got Trent Reznor of Nine Inch Nails to do the score for the series. They weren’t fucking around.

I’m not going to say much about the show, but I find it to be pretty thought provoking, but its also not super accessible if you don’t know the comic. I recommend checking it out if you have any interest at all though.

Has anyone else been watching Watchmen?
