Motorhead is one of the most influential metal bands of all time. They are one of the pioneers of the New Wave of British Heavy Metal, but you can definitely find quite a bit of punk rock in their sound as well. They rose to prominence when punk rock was at its peak and they influenced a lot of the thrash metal and speed metal bands that came out of America in the early 80s including Metallica and Megadeth.
The “classic” Motorhead lineup features Lemmy Kilmister, Fast Eddie Clarke and Phil Philthy Animal Taylor. The three piece played on the first 5 albums, including the album I chose to spotlight today Overkill, their second album.
Overkill is possibly Motorhead’s most influential work and the first album to earn them any true mainstream success. Its now considered one of the best metal albums ever. Today’s deep cut is (I Won’t) Pay Your Price.
