Creepy Album Covers

I feel like now album covers tend to be acknowledged as great art and most of the time they should be. There are some really original designs out there that have sometimes become as iconic as the music itself. However, every now and then there are some covers that creep me out. Here are some of my favorite examples.

Goats Head SoupThe Rolling Stones (1973)

goatshead soup

This is one I don’t see any another other lists, but for some reason it always spooked me. I’ve read later that it wasn’t the intention, but I always thought this cover looked like Mick Jagger’s head was cut off and wrapped in saran wrap. Turns out the band member’s heads are wrapped in some sort of fabric that is supposed to be an homage to Kathryn Hepburn in the movie The African Queen.

Black SabbathBlack Sabbath (1970)

Black Sabbath’s title track is one of the most spooky sounding songs ever, but the album cover might creep me out more than that song. If I were ranking this list Black Sabbath’s debut album would definitely rank number one. The woman on the cover just looked a lot like a witch. There is very little known about the woman on the cover, no member of the band seemed to remember her name.

If You Want Blood You’ve Got It- AC/DC (1978)

AC/DC’s first live album is one of my all time favorite live albums, and the cover is one of the things that make it member, depicting guitarist Angus Young stabbed by his own guitar. A song with the same name as this album appeared on Highway to Hell which was released a year later and the video showed Angus impaled by his guitar as well.

What album art gave you nightmares?
