30 Years Ago: The Simpsons Premieres

Today is the 30th anniversary of the premiere episode of The Simpsons with an episode called Simpsons Roasting on a Open Fire. A Christmas episode. The show is currently in its 31rst season.

The Simpsons have become pop culture staples over the course of their history. While many will agree that they’ve probably overstayed their welcome the show has given us some of the more memorable episodes of TV and provided the inspiration for a lot of other popular shows.

The show is technically a spin off of the Tracey Ullman Show as the Simpsons family appeared in crudely drawn skits for the show starting in 1987 and in 1989 they got their own show.

The voices among the cast were refined over the years and by the early 90s the show was at its peak. Homer, Marge, Bart, Lisa and Maggie are among the most recognizable characters in the world and still hold fairly strong viewership today and they had a successful film in 2007 as well.
