THR is reporting that Taika Waititi has been “courted” for a Star Wars film. The report does not say if he’s accepted the film or if he’s even still being considered so there is still a lot of gray area, but they can confirm that he’s been pursued.
Waititi does have some history with Star Wars since he directed the finale of season one of The Mandalorian and played the mo-cap role of IG-11. He once said he would never do a Star Wars film because he would be fired “in a week”.
Waititi’s 2019 film Jojo Rabbit is currently up for an Oscar and he’s gotten lots of critical acclaim with his independent comedies such as What We Do in the Shadows, and he has a bit more background under the Disney umbrella since he directed Thor: Ragnarok.
It isn’t clear whether this Waititi film and the earlier reported Kevin Feige film are the same project.
