I’ve been thinking about highlighting Mickey Rooney’s performance in the classic romantic comedy Breakfast at Tiffany’s for a long time now, and Tard Week seemed like the right time to talk about it.
The movie is most known for Aubrey Hepburn’s performance in the lead, but over time people have forgotten about American comedy legend Mickey Rooney’s performance as Hepburn’s cranky Asian neighbor Mr. Yunioshi.
Rooney was fitted with facial prosthetics in order to represent a Japanese person. Mr. Yunioshi was constantly trying to have his neighbors arrested after his noisy neighbors partied at all ends of the night.
Here are some of Mr. Yunioshi’s best moments.
The character is a great example of classically Liberal Hollywood’s racism at its best.
