Ryan Gosling has been cast in the lead role for an upcoming Wolfman reboot from Universal. Universal has been struggling to get their Universal Monster universe off the ground for a while now and scored their first hit with The Invisible Man earlier this year. Now it seems that they’ve found their tone and are doing smaller, low budget films featuring their trademark monsters.
The reboot of The Wolfman will be directed by Cory Finley, the director of Thoroughbreds and the recent HBO movie Bad Education. This movie is said to be in the vein of the Jake Gyllenhaal movie Nightcrawler from a few years ago. Gosling actually pitched the project himself and originally thought about directing it as well.
Universal’s first version of The Wolfman happened all the way back in 1941 starring Lon Chaney Jr. Its been remade as recently as 2010 with Benicio Del Toro playing the Wolfman.
